Reading For Pleasure

At St Peter in Eastgate Church of England Primary School, we foster a unique and engaging reading culture. Our approach is backed by research, which consistently demonstrates that reading for pleasure is a key factor in children’s academic success, both in school and beyond.

Reading for pleasure opens new worlds for children. It gives children and adults the opportunity to use their imagination to explore new ideas, visit new places, and meet different characters. Reading for pleasure can have a positive impact on children’s well-being and empathy.

At St Peter in Eastgate, we promote reading for pleasure throughout the school day. We have reading areas inside each classroom and outside. The children can access the outside reading areas at break times. They love sharing books with each other.

We have a lovely library, run by volunteers, where the children can choose books to take home and share with their families.

We have six reading ambassadors who are working with six children from St Faiths Infant School to explore different ways they can promote reading in their schools. They are enjoying working together.
